Water Safety

MORE THAN JUST LEARNING TO SWIM.

Helping families become safer around the water is the mission of Fish Tails Swim School.
Learning to swim is an important piece of water safety, but it’s certainly not the only piece.

More Than Learning to Swim
Our goal is not for our students to be able to swim. Yes, you read that correctly.

Our goal for our students is much MORE than that. Many establishments can teach a child to (panic) swim. At Fish Tails, we work diligently through our thorough curriculum and the results are students who learn to LIVE in the water like a fish. What do we mean by that?

Fish are not panicked. Fish do not scramble to get out of the water. Fish are confident and comfortable living in the water. That’s what we want for our swimmers.

Community Presentations
Our team, with more than 30 years of experience and industry knowledge, is eager to share safety tips and resources to educate about the importance of water safety. Our complementary Water Safety Presentations are available to organizations and groups throughout the Treasure Coast and can be catered to audiences of any age.

Water Safety for All
We know that participation in formal swim lessons reduces the risk of drowning by 88%, but some of the most at-risk demographics are financially unable to enroll in swim lessons.

Hope Floats Foundation bridges the financial gap, making swim lessons available to all. We are proud to accept the Hope Floats Foundation scholarship for swim lessons.

Spotlighting Safety Concerns
During one week each month, our swim program integrates an important aspect of water safety into each class. In January we check our homes against our Water Safety Checklist to see where hazards may be hiding. In February, we discuss CPR and give our families the opportunity to learn for the first time or refresh with an onsite training course. In March, it’s all about when and where to use a PFD and how to ensure a proper fit.

Some months are kid-focused while other months have important information for parents and caregivers. Each month, we’re committed to increasing water safety in our community through education.

Safety Starts in Our Own Pool
We’re big on layers of protection to reduce the risk of drowning, and it starts in our own facility. The doors to our pool have safety mechanisms to prevent little ones from opening them. Deck assistants accompany children from the lobby door to their instructor. Instructors are trained and certified in responding to emergencies. Life guards continuously scan the pool during classes as an extra set of eyes watching for signs of trouble. We take water safety seriously and encourage you to as well.

Every Child a Swimmer
We’re committed to being a community resource as legislation around swim lessons makes its way into our schools. Find out more information on the Every Child A Swimmer Act here.
