Can you swim without goggles?

Many often wonder whether or not goggles should be worn during swim lessons. Good points are made for both sides, but at Fish Tails Swim School, we believe the ultimate decision is up to you and your child. Whether or not a swimmer typically utilizes goggles during their lesson, it is important to periodically ensure that each swimmer is comfortable swimming without goggles so he/she does not panic in an unexpected situation. This is the focus of our December safety week.

To help every swimmer practice their water safety skills without goggles, we will be having a NO GOGGLE SAFETY WEEK during regular lessons the week of December 16th-December 21st.

Goggles can offer great benefits, as long as the swimmer does not become dependent on them. Being safer in the water is our primary goal, and being dependent on goggles can potentially limit confidence. If your swimmer decides to try goggles, it is important to note that they are not all created equally. Make sure the goggles are the correct size and of high quality so that they are comfortable and do not leak.

Our goggle of choice is FINIS Goggles which can be found in our Swim Shop or multiple retailers online.
